Somehow, people are up-in-arms over Miss California's answer to a serious question, yet she's only semi-famous because she looks good in an evening gown, a swimsuit, and sash that says "
THANKS A LOT, GOVERNATOR; WE'RE SCREWED."
I was eating a large bowl of Wheaties when I became disappointed that everyone's failing to understand how one is supposed to fairly judge a female hotness contest. I thought this was AMERICA.
At first, I was only mildly amused that this is such a big deal. Then, I realized that some people are
really serious about this, and I felt bad for laughing at their plight. It felt like laughing at inappropriate jokes during reruns of In Living Color: it's wrong, BUT STILL FUNNY! That's why I'm reminding everyone that The Miss USA Pageant is a prettiness contest, not a Presidential debate. They're not saving the manatees, you know. The questions aren't supposed to be REAL. The opinion of an elected official matters in real life, but Miss California didn't even
win, and now she's much more famous than if she had. What a spotlight-stealer.
That's why I say Perez Hilton failed as a judge. Save the real issues for someone who's got more to look forward to in life than being immortalized on some frat house wall with a room full of drunk boys saying "
we NEED to visit California!"
Judges are supposed to ask questions that can be answered with "
achieving world peace," "
ending poverty in third-world countries," and "
I use Crest Whitestrips, thanks for asking!" Poor Miss California must have been shocked that she was asked a real question about a social issue that her state already decided months ago. That, or Perez Hilton forgot that he was at a "
let's face it, this is just about looks" contest. I can imagine his confusion when he saw all of those attractive women in sashes at what he THOUGHT was townhall-style political debate. Oops.
He's probably still dumbfounded, waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out from behind a cue card and tell him he's PUNK'D!

The guy is a nutcase. I'm sick of hearing about this whole Miss California final question junk... the guy was bitter cause she didn't say, "Yes, all of America should have gay marriage legalized!" Had she said that, there probably wouldn't have been so much drama. Dude, people are free to have their own opinions. The guy is rude, inappropriate and the question was unfair, I think.
HA. So this is why you were asking me about tiaras.
Don't worry. I was also laughing at how crazy this has gotten. Btw, I'm mad your tags are in my style...
I might sound like a completely idiot, but what the hell are you talking about?
I agree. Wrong question. They should try to concentrate on the proper issues.
I rarely rec you..;P But this is a well said rant.
I will amuse myself by reminding folks here that I was treated by *Xanga Hilton wannabes in the same manner for having an idea.
* not Dave
yeah I witnessed that as well... straight insanity, and people do need to calm down...
all that fuckery and foolery aside....
go Miss NC!!!! whooo!!!!!
D
You mean this isn't a contest about what to do about world peace? Dang, where have I been?
Yep, you've got it exactly right. I'm astonished by the uproar, originating in a contest that is clearly not remotely about the intellectual capacity of these women. I guess I have an added layer of astonishment, since I find these pageants stupid.
Now, a bunch of good looking MEN parading around in swimsuits while we judge their bodies and pretend to care what they think about world issues -- that might be another story!
Loved your tags LOL!!!
I missed it! Shows ya how much I watch T.V.
Nice. You should be a pageant judge. Then even I would watch it!
Haha, nice.
@tulipsinspring - ROFL!!!
I just find it ironic... people for gay rights are all about equality right? That we all have the right to be equal and have the same opportunites (ie marriage...)? Bad paraphrase but you know what I mean. And then they go and say this woman is basically not allowed to have an opinion? Yeah... double standards are not cool.
/serious. =)
Yo, how did I miss this? I heard a breif something about it on the radio, but I don't know what the question OR answer what.
But seriously, if they wanted intelligent answers, maybe they should had a "Geek Week" contest. Let's be honest, it's hard to be pretty AND smart. I can only do it because I'm awesome.
I think what is rather frustrating for some people is that this girl's answer echoes the majority's opinion. The pageant may not be a venue for cerebral questions but it is place where you can at least see the awareness and biases of people (or pretty women).
I hate beauty contests and this kind of stupidity is brain melting.
why is there still a miss america pageant? does anyone even care? hell it prolly don't even matter if they couldn't get anyone besides perez hilton to be a judge
i gave up on watching pageants when ol girl from south carolina was talking about why children can't locate america on a map
Yes, she should have the right to her opinion, or even the opinion she was told to have. It was an unfair question for that venue.
I miss In Living Color! It was sick, especially "This old box".
haha...how DID he get to be a judge anyway?
Won't somebody please save the manatees?!
Luckily, I missed all of this crap (yay for not being American). Why do they ask questions anyway. We all know that brains don't come with beauty. Duh..
If Perez Hilton's aim was to marginalize Ms. Prejean, well, that certainly backfired. Seriously, people need to realize that the more they hate on her, the more popular and famous she becomes. If people would shut up, then we'd be able to go back to a world that makes sense, where beauty contestants are just judged on their looks and no one really cares who won Miss USA.
Then again, there were apparently some people who voted for Barack Obama based on the swimsuit portion of that competition. And it turns out he gave the same answer to Perez's question.
Good point. It is a beauty contest, not a political jeopardy show.
i could care less about this story. tomorrow someone will call someone a fag and this story will be forgotten.
@randomneuralfirings - Hahaha...
Because I enjoyed the movie Miss Congeniality (all because of one scene, really, and because Sandra Bullock tends to make me laugh), I keep feeling like there must be SOME redeeming quality to the Miss USA pageant. I don't watch it. I didn't even know it was happening until Yahoo News brought Miss Calif's answer to my attention.
You should host a pageant, Big. Ha, that'd be hilarious!
Do it.
